Crunchyroll Confirms Ojisan and Marshmallow Anime Streaming

Media distribution service Crunchyroll confirmed on Wednesday that it will stream the television anime of Rekomaru Otoi's web manga Ojisan and Marshmallow (Ojisan to Marshmallow) as it airs in Japan. The stream will launch on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. EST, and will be available worlwide excluding Asia.
The anime's official website lists Crunchyroll as being in charge of foreign business for the project with Chinese streaming service bilibili.
The story centers around Hige, an older man who loves marshmallows, and Wakabayashi, an OL (office lady) who loves Hige. The manga follows as their relationship unfolds at their office.
The anime's cast includes:
- Tetsu Inada as Habahiro Kusaka (Hige)
- Eri Kitamura as Iori Wakabayashi
- Kana Hanazawa as MIO5 (Mioko or Degasu-chan)
- Tetsuya Kakihara as Isamu Wakabayashi
- Kaori Taguchi as Mukai
- Suzuna Kinoshita as Machida
- Chika Yoshitomi as Senior at Marshmallow Factory
- Nozomi Furuki as Junior at Marshmallow Factory
Hisayoshi Hirasawa (Haitai Nanafa producer) will serve as chief director on the project. Noriyoshi Sasaki (One Week Friends animation director, The Rolling Girls episode director) will direct the anime at Creators in Pack. Atsushi Oka (Wake Up, Girl Zoo!, Galilei Donna scripts) is writing the scenario and Mari Shirakawa (The Rolling Girls episode animation director) is designing the characters and serving as animation director. Masakatsu Oomuro (Magical Somera-chan, Danchigai) is handling sound design at Dax Production, shusei (Danchigai) is composing the music, and Dream Creation is producing the series.
The original manga series has garnered over 20 million views on the pixiv site. Ichijinsha published the first compiled book volume in November 2014 and the second volume, Motto! Ojisan to Marshmallow, in June. Otoi began the ongoing spinoff series Wakabayashi-kun ga Nekasete Kurenai in Futabasha's Manga Action magazine in 2015.
