Mirai Film Alums Direct, Design Anime Ad for Marui Group

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Japanese retail company Marui Group's newest short anime is in the works and set to premiere online in March 2019. The new short will be produced by Studio Orange, the same studio behind Land of the Lustrous, with staff alumni from Mamoru Hosoda's Golden Globes-nominated film Mirai.

Marui Group describes the ad's theme as "inclusion" with a focus on dance and music as a way to spread understanding of one another's differences. Toshimasa Ishii directed the short with character designer Ayako Hata. Both Ishii and Hata previously worked together on Mamoru Hosoda's Mirai Film as assistant director and animation director, respectively. Yoshihiro Nagasuna (The Dam Keeper) provided the conceptual art and Liz and the Bluebird and DEVILMAN crybaby composer kensuke ushio composed the music.

Fans can get an early look at the ad's production at Marui Group's booth at Comiket 95 from December 29-31.

The company launched an anime division in 2016 and produced the short-form anime ads "Neko ga Kureta Marui Shiawase" (The Round Happiness a Cat Gave) in 2017 with Hal anime film director Ryōtarō Makihara.

Marui Group then expanded its vision to include voice actor and idol auditions this year. The winners were given the opportunity to appear in Marui Group's anime commercials.
