The SMA14 Results Are In
Tokyo, Japan – November 25th, 2020
The results for SMA14 are in! With no clear Grand Prix winner, the judging panel, consisting of legendary manga creators Tetsuo Hara (Fist of the North Star), Tsukasa Hōjō (City Hunter), Ryuji Tsugihara (Yoroshiku Mecha-Doc), Jun Tomizawa (Koroshiya Menkichi) and COAMIX Inc. CEO, Nobuhiko Horie, agonized over the amazing finalists and settled on awarding the GP Runner Up Award to “blackwink” of Indonesia for her entry Blooming Flower.
With the theme “Creatures, Spirits and Monsters”, SMA14 aimed to shine a light on the wonderfully weird myths and legends from the global Silent Manga community.
“The level of skill has improved greatly...” observed Tsukasa Hōjō. Fist of the North Star creator, Tetsuo Hara thought the “theme had a lot of freedom”, though lamented the “lack of full body illustrations”. Ryuji Tsugihara also agreed that the “level of art has improved a lot” and Jun Tomizawa thought the theme was “... much closer to the world of manga”.
With the The Tree of Farewells by Brazilian artist Laica Chrose, The Black Cat by French artist Carriere Alexandre and Bisso Galeto by Italian artist “ci-jins” each winning the Excellence Award, SMA14 truly illustrated the international flavor of the Round
